  • No smoking is recommended for six weeks prior to the surgery. Food, drinks, chewing gum and chewing sweets (including Tic Tac) are forbidden
for six hours before the surgery.
  • Recommended: good health, make – up removal before the surgery,
    ENT – specialist consultation.
  • Description of procedure

    Anaesthesia: general.

    Length: 1 – 2 hours.

Discharge from clinic: one day after procedure.

The procedure is performed to change shape or size of the nose, which can be achieved by correction of bone
and/or cartilage elements of the nose. Sometimes the nasal septum or nasal conchas may need to be operated as well.
Rhinoplasty can be done not earlier than at the age of 16 – 17, when growth of the nose is completed. There are two techniques of performing the procedure: „closed” one - when the incision is made inside the nostrils or „open”
one – when the incision is made across the columella (the vertical strip of tissue separating the nostrils). The decision which technique is going to be used is made during the consultation as the technique is adjusted to the procedure
that will best respond to the patient's expectations about the shape of his/her nose.
Special computer imaging software can help determine shape of the nose that will go with the whole face.
The more information about expected shape of the nose the surgeon will receive before the procedure the more satisfied the patient will be from the new shape of his/her nose.

    Recovery

    1. A splint will have to be worn for 9 – 12 days following the procedure.

    4. Possible complications: asymmetry, irregularities on the skin of the nose, sustained swelling and bruising, persistent nose bleeding requiring nasal packing.
