FACIAL RESHAPING
(AQUAMID, FAT GRAFTING, HYALURONIC ACID)
SYN. FILLERS, INJECTABLE FILLERS
Preparing for surgery
and smoking are forbidden for six hours before the surgery.
Description of procedure
Anaesthesia: local or intravenous.
Length: 15 – 60 min (depending on type of procedure).
Discharge from clinic: on the day of procedure.
Facial reshaping with the use of so called fillers (aquamid, fat grafting, hyaluronic acid) includes a number of different procedures, which are selected according to the patient's individual needs. The most frequent procedures include lip augmentation, correction of wrinkles and folds (frontal, nasolabial, mentolabial folds), reshaping of cheek bones
and chin.
Aquamid – an elastic, permanent filler injected with a fine needle through a puncture in the corrected region
of the face.
Fat grafting – The patient's own fat is removed with a fine needle from a body area selected during surgical consultation and transferred into the corrected area of the face following specific treatment.
Hyaluronic acid – a temporary filler injected with a fine needle through a puncture in the corrected area of the face.
Type of procedure is individually adjusted to the patient's needs and discussed in details during the plastic surgeon consultation.
Recovery
- Usually there are: swelling which subsides within 5 – 7 days, transient loss of feeling or paraesthesia.
- Possible complications: persistent swelling, haematoma, infection, herpes after the surgery; hyaluronic acid
and aquamid may induce allergic reactions.
Duration of results
Aquamid – the result is permanent.
Fatty tissue – 30% of the injected fat will stay permanently and 70% will be absorbed over time. Usually more fatty tissue is injected (hypercorrection) to make satisfactory results last longer. However repeat procedures are usually needed.
Hyaluronic acid – the result lasts 4 – 6 months and after that time the substance is absorbed.
Frequently asked questions
I would like to change the shape of my lips and cheek bones. I have already consulted with my plastic surgeon and we have discussed the choice of a product for me. I would like to achieve permanent results but I am also thinking about trying something temporary at the beginning. Could you please tell me a bit more about substances used in these products?
Fat graft is the most „natural” product because fatty tissue for the graft would be taken from you. However it is absorbed to considerable extent, especially after the first procedure and repeat procedures are needed. However after some time desirable effects, which are satisfactory for patients, can be achieved. Its unquestionable advantage is its safety – it does not induce allergy.
Aquamid is a transparent gel, which consists of 97.5% of water and 2.5% of polyacrylamide. If you are sure that you want permanent effect and you do not want to repeat the procedures in the future, it will be the best choice. However you must be aware that allergic reaction may occur, although it happens very rarely.
Hyaluronic acid is a mucopolysaccharide naturally found in the skin. It joins collagen and elastin fibres in the dermis. Its advantages include the fact that it is completely absorbed within 4 – 6 months. It will be a good choice if you are not sure whether you want permanent effects. Similarly to Aquamid, hyaluronic acid may induce allergic reaction although it happens very rarely.
