Preparing for surgery


  • Required laboratory tests: blood cell count, clotting profile (coagulogram), blood group, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, fasting blood glucose, blood ion levels, urea, creatinine, ECG, chest X-ray, hepatitis B vaccination.
  • For one week prior to the surgery aspirin, other acetylsalicylic acid products and other blood thinning products should be avoided. Drugs that enhance coagulation and decrease blood vessel wall permeability such as vitamin C and Rutinoscorbin (rutin and ascorbic acid tablets) are recommended.
  • No smoking is recommended for 14 days before the surgery. Food, drinks, chewing gum, chewing sweets (including Tic Tac) are forbidden for six hours before the surgery.
  • Recommended: good health, make – up removal before the surgery.

    • Description of procedure

    Anaesthesia: usually general (intravenous or topical anaesthesia is possible depending on the extent of procedure).

    Length: 1 – 3 hours (depending on the extent of procedure).

    Discharge from clinic: one day after procedure.

    Facelift may involve the lower two thirds of the face, the forehead, the temples, the neck or the whole face.
    The procedure is done to rejuvenate the face as it eliminates wrinkles, reduces nasolabial folds, tightens sagging skin
    of the cheeks and jowls, lifts loose skin of the chin and neck, smoothes out the forehead and temples and raises the hanging eyebrows.
    Facelift may be done on men and women as early as at the age of 30. To maximize the result facelift may be combined with blepharoplasty, fillers or botox injections or double chin liposuction.

    Recovery

    1. Drains are removed one day after the surgery.
    2. A special mask must be worn on the face for 10 – 14 days after the surgery.
    3. Stitches are removed 5 – 14 days after the surgery.
    4. Usually there are: pain alleviated by pain – killers, swelling and bruising (which occurs especially in the region of lower lids and cheeks and subsides within 10 – 14 days), transient loss of feeling or paraesthesia of the scalp and face; hair loss.
    5. Possible complications: haematoma resulting in repeat procedure, infection. Persistent swelling and bruising, temporary or permanent damage to the facial nerve.

    Duration of results

    The purpose of the procedure is to rejuvenate the face by approx. 10 years and to maintain the results for 5 – 10 years.

    I would like to undergo face lifting. Can facelift surgery be done without any visible scars?

    Incisions on the skin are adjusted individually to each patient and are hidden above the hairline, inside the ear and behind the ear so they are actually unnoticeable.

    When after the surgery can I wash my hair?

    Not earlier than three days after the surgery.

    When after the surgery can I go to solarium?

    You can visit solarium one month after the surgery.

    When after the surgery can I start wearing makeup?

    You can start wearing makeup 14 days after the stitches are removed.
